Azell, el dúo compuesto por Courtney y David Napier, se prepara para lanzar su segundo álbum de larga duración, «Astralis», que promete ser una evolución ambiciosa de su característico sonido sludge/doom. Este lanzamiento sigue a su impactante debut de 2024, «Death Control», que rápidamente los posicionó como una fuerza notable en el underground del metal extremo.
«Astralis» se presenta como una obra conceptual completa, acompañada por una novela donde cada capítulo está intrínsecamente ligado a una canción del álbum. Esta propuesta multidisciplinar arranca con el sencillo «From The Womb Of Oblivion», que ya da cuenta de la magnitud de la propuesta sonora. Las voces desgarradoras de Courtney se elevan sobre riffs monolíticos que evocan una escala imponente, mientras el bajo y la batería, a cargo de David, establecen una base de profundidad considerable.
A lo largo del álbum, temas como «Waves Of Remembrance» y «Shifting Reality» sumergen al oyente en una atmósfera de melancolía y tensión. Azell, the duo composed of Courtney and David Napier, is set to release their second full-length album, «Astralis», which promises to be an ambitious evolution of their characteristic sludge/doom sound. This release follows their impactful 2024 debut, «Death Control«, which quickly positioned them as a notable force in the extreme metal underground.
«Astralis« is presented as a complete concept album, accompanied by a novella where each chapter is intrinsically linked to a song on the album. This multidisciplinary proposal kicks off with the single «From The Womb Of Oblivion«, which already demonstrates the magnitude of the sonic proposition. Courtney‘s soul-scouring vocals soar over monolithic riffs that evoke an imposing scale, while the bass and drums, handled by David, establish a foundation of considerable depth.
Throughout the album, tracks like «Waves Of Remembrance« and «Shifting Reality« immerse the listener in an atmosphere of melancholy and tension. The sense of sadness intensifies with «Threads Of Connection« and «The End Is Inevitable«, culminating in the bleakly magnificent and atmospheric «Time Slows To Nothing«. This final piece is, perhaps, the most enthralling created by Azell to date, suggesting not only the album’s winding down, but a reflection on existence itself.
The production of «Astralis« was handled by David Napier, who was in charge of mixing and mastering, achieving a sound with notable richness and depth. David‘s striking artwork visually complements the album’s potency.
