Hace poco tuve el placer de escuchar «In this Silence», el EP anterior de la banda húngara de metal sinfónico Meteora, y quedé impresionado por la solidez de su propuesta. La promesa de una trilogía de EPs ya me había generado expectación, y ahora, con el lanzamiento de la segunda parte, «Broken Mind», siento que han dado un salto monumental. Si el primer EP estableció un nuevo estándar para el género, este lo supera con creces, sonando aún más logrado, seguro y confiado. Meteora nos guía más profundamente en un reino que equilibra el romance, la tragedia y la esperanza.El EP abre con la pista principal, «Broken Mind», y me cautivó de inmediato. Los teclados de Atilla Király bailan con el diablo sobre riffs oscuros y azotados por la tormenta. Es un comienzo dinámico y emocionante, con melodías maravillosas y estilos vocales poderosamente contrastantes, que te atrapan con una energía feroz y un gran drama.
«Morningstar» sigue la pauta, deslizándose de melodías encantadoras a secciones pesadas y contundentes con growls desenfrenados a cargo de Máté Fülöp. La habilidad de la banda para manejar los cambios de humor y tempo es sublime, haciendo que cada canción se sienta como una verdadera sinfonía, llena de sorpresas. No en vano, las composiciones de la banda están tan texturizadas que revelan nuevos secretos con cada escucha.
La banda se atreve a incursionar en tonos más oscuros con «Elysion». En esta pieza de power metal, Atilla Király toma la voz principal y sus tonos ricos y suaves funcionan a la perfección. La melodía es transportadora y emotiva, haciendo que la canción se sienta como si saliera de las páginas de un libro de historia.
Sin embargo, la gloria suprema de este EP, para mí, reside en su pista final: «In My Name». Este drama digno de una obra de teatro evoluciona de manera espléndida. Se añaden capas de sonido, y los tres vocalistas (Noémi Holló en la voz principal, Máté Fülöp en los growls y Atilla Király en las voces limpias) están en su mejor momento superlativo. Con riffs excelentes y una sensación de profundidad real, es sin duda una de las mejores canciones de Meteora hasta la fecha.
La producción es otro punto a destacar. Trabajando con un equipo de ingenieros de alto calibre como Balázs Pálfi, Nino Helfrich, Dmitry Kim y Joel Wanasek (conocido por su trabajo con Machine Head), Meteora ha capturado un sonido perfecto: texturizado, potente y resonante.
«Broken Mind» es una experiencia sonora inmensamente satisfactoria. Demuestra que Meteora no solo es una de las bandas más innovadoras de metal sinfónico de la actualidad, sino que está evolucionando constantemente. La forma en que tejen romance, magia y tragedia en tan solo cuatro canciones me deja en un estado de increíble anticipación por la parte final de esta trilogía.

I recently had the pleasure of listening to «In this Silence» the previous EP from the Hungarian symphonic metal band Meteora, and I was impressed by the solidity of their proposal. The promise of an EP trilogy had already generated anticipation for me, and now, with the release of the second part, «Broken Mind» I feel they have taken a monumental leap. If the first EP set a new standard for the genre, this one far surpasses it, sounding even more accomplished, assured, and confident. Meteora guides us deeper into a realm that balances romance, tragedy, and hope.
The EP opens with the title track, «Broken Mind» and it immediately captivated me. Atilla Király‘s keyboards dance with the devil over dark and storm-tossed riffs. It is a dynamic and thrilling start, with wonderful melodies and powerfully contrasting vocal styles, that hook you with fierce energy and grand drama.
«Morningstar» follows suit, sliding from enchanting melodies to driving, heavy sections with rampant growls by Máté Fülöp. The band’s ability to manage shifts in mood and tempo is sublime, making each song feel like a true symphony, full of surprises. It’s no wonder the band’s compositions are so textured that they reveal new secrets with every listen.
The band dares to venture into darker tones with «Elysion» In this power metal piece, Atilla Király takes the vocal lead, and his rich, smooth tones work perfectly. The melody is transportative and emotive, making the song feel as if it stepped from the pages of a history book.
However, the crowning glory of this EP, for me, lies in its final track: «In My Name» This drama, worthy of a stage play, evolves in a splendid way. Layers of sound are added, layer upon layer, and all three vocalists (Noémi Holló on lead vocals, Máté Fülöp on growls, and Atilla Király on clean vocals) are at their superlative best. With excellent riffs and a sense of real depth, it is undoubtedly one of Meteora‘s greatest songs to date.
The production is another point to highlight. Working with a high-caliber team of engineers like Balázs Pálfi, Nino Helfrich, Dmitry Kim, and Joel Wanasek (known for his work with Machine Head), Meteora has captured a perfect sound: textured, powerful, and resonant.
«Broken Mind» is an immensely satisfying sonic experience. It proves that Meteora is not only one of the most innovative symphonic metal bands today, but is constantly evolving. The way they weave romance, magic, and tragedy into just four songs leaves me in a state of incredible anticipation for the final part of this trilogy.
