Desde los fosos de la plaga olvidados y las tumbas de pobres, llega el segundo álbum de los colombianos Funeral Vomit, y la sensación es inconfundible: hay un revuelo. Formados en la época de la pandemia global, esta banda ha estado vomitando una marca particular de enfermedad de death metal desde 2020. Su primer álbum, «Monumental Putrescence», ya había puesto el listón alto, pero «Upheaval Of Necromancy» es un segundo tomo de monstruosidades y malignidad que profundiza la podredumbre aún más.El álbum comienza con «Intro (The Disentombment)», una guía atmosférica que te conduce con garras atrayentes hacia un mundo subterráneo donde nada está tan muerto como parece. Desde ese momento, se desata todo el infierno con la pista principal. «Upheaval Of Necromancy» irrumpe desde la oscuridad con voces inmensas y cavernosas a cargo de C. Monsalve, y unas guitarras que suenan espolvoreadas con los últimos restos de los muertos hace mucho tiempo. Este es death metal fétido desde la tumba, una invocación clásica de las artes ancestrales de la muerte, y claramente bebe de la vieja escuela, con influencias que recuerdan a Autopsy y Grave.
No hay tregua del horror claustrofóbico. «Sulphuric Regurgitation» es una retumbante máquina de guerra de intención inefablemente maliciosa, labrando profundas ranuras en tu carne. La banda (compuesta por Y. Lopez y C. Monsalve en guitarras, H. Montaño en bajo y J. Carvajal en batería) se siente increíblemente cohesionada, desplegando un sonido cavernoso, crudo y podrido. Pistas anteriores como «Hematophagia» han sido señaladas por su mezcla de lentitud agobiante y estallidos de velocidad, y aquí, el horror primitivo de la versión en el álbum te persigue a través de catacumbas sin luz.
Incluso «Interlude (Mortuary Ecstasy)» es menos un respiro y más una promesa de algo mucho, mucho peor por venir. Esto nos lleva a «Cryptic Miasma Stench», una pieza monumental de death metal devorador de almas con leads gritones y un peso aplastante que recuerda el sonido old school sucio y gritty que honran. La banda, con su base en Barranquilla, Colombia, forja su sonido con una convicción que rinde homenaje a los pioneros sudamericanos y del death metal finlandés.
Tras los riffs de guitarra abrasadores y el colosal, apaleador bajo y batería de «Rancid Insorcism», el «Outro (Effluvia Of The Mass Grave)» se asienta en tu mente. Al igual que el final de una película de terror de serie B, te hace saber que, si bien el álbum ha concluido, la pesadilla de Funeral Vomit nunca terminará. «Upheaval Of Necromancy» no ofrece nada radicalmente nuevo, pero lo que ofrece, lo hace con una autenticidad y una dedicación al metal extremo de antaño que resulta contagiosa. Es una llamada desde la tumba que no puedes ignorar.

«Upheaval Of Necromancy» es un álbum de death metal excelentemente ejecutado que preserva la esencia oscura y pútrida de Funeral Vomit, profundizando la podredumbre aún más. Su dedicación al sonido cavernoso, crudo y old school es inquebrantable, y la ejecución de riffs y las inmensas voces son de primer nivel. Es un trabajo brutalmente satisfactorio que se siente auténtico y convincente, consolidando su lugar en el underground más sucio.

From the forgotten plague pits and paupers’ graves, the second album from the Colombians Funeral Vomitarrives, and the sensation is unmistakable: there is a stirring. Formed in the time of the global pandemic, this band has been spewing forth a particular brand of death metal sickness since 2020. Their first album, «Monumental Putrescence» had already set the bar high, but «Upheaval Of Necromancy» is a second tome of monstrosities and malignancy that deepens the rot even further.
The album begins with «Intro (The Disentombment)» an atmospheric guide that leads you with beckoning claws into a subterranean world where nothing is as dead as it seems. From that moment, all hell is unleashed with the title track. «Upheaval Of Necromancy» erupts from the darkness with immense, cavernous vocals by C. Monsalve, and guitars that sound dusted with the last remains of the long, long dead. This is fetid death metal from the grave, a classic invocation of the ancient arts of death, and clearly drinks from the old school, with influences reminiscent of Autopsy and Grave.
There is no let up from the claustrophobic horror. «Sulphuric Regurgitation» is a rumbling war machine of unspeakably malicious intent, gouging deep grooves into your flesh. The band (composed of Y. Lopez and C. Monsalve on guitars, H. Montaño on bass, and J. Carvajal on drums) feels incredibly cohesive, deploying a cavernous, raw, and rotten sound. Previous tracks like «Hematophagia» have been noted for their mix of agonizing slowness and bursts of speed, and here, the primitive horror of the album version pursues you through lightless catacombs.
Even «Interlude (Mortuary Ecstasy)» is less a respite and more a promise of far, far worse to come. This leads us to «Cryptic Miasma Stench» a monumental piece of soul-devouring death metal with screaming leads and crushing weight that recalls the dirty and gritty old school sound they honor. The band, with its base in Barranquilla, Colombia, forges its sound with a conviction that pays homage to the South American and Finnish death metal pioneers.
After the scouring guitar riffs and the colossal, bludgeoning bass and drums of «Rancid Insorcism» the «Outro (Effluvia Of The Mass Grave)» settles into your mind. Like the ending of a B-grade horror movie, it lets you know that, while the album may have concluded, the Funeral Vomit nightmare will never end. «Upheaval Of Necromancy» offers nothing radically new, but what it offers, it does so with an authenticity and a dedication to the extreme metal of yesteryear that is infectious. It is a call from the grave that you cannot ignore.
