He aquí un debut que me ha golpeado con una inmediatez asombrosa. «Flamecore», el álbum homónimo de este quinteto griego (procedente de Chania y Atenas), no es solo una declaración de intenciones, sino una prueba palpable de que el melodic death metal puede honrar sus raíces mientras se inyecta con una energía brutalmente moderna. Si esperas la esencia de In Flames y Soilwork combinada con la pesadez rítmica de Slipknot o Gojira, este álbum es tu nueva obsesión.
El viaje arranca con «Planes of Nameck», la idea original de guitarra que encendió la llama (nunca mejor dicho) del proyecto. Desde ese primer momento, el disco se enciende en un furioso vendaval de double-kick y armonías de guitarra afiladas como cuchillas. El sonido es denso, sin ser opresivo, y notablemente claro, gracias al trabajo de mezcla y masterización de John Mor en Apex Soundworks. La producción, a pesar del enfoque DIY de la grabación en dos ciudades, logra darle un peso y claridad tremenda a la visión sónica de la banda.
La banda logra una alquimia fascinante entre la melodía y la agresión. Los riffs tienen la oscuridad melancólica y a veces épica del sonido Gotemburgo, pero el groove y la Wucht (fuerza) rítmica moderna le dan un toque fresco y rabioso. Esto se siente en cortes como «Only Waste Remains», que equilibra velocidad y precisión con un breakdown aplastante, creando un muro de sonido épico e implacable.
Akis Mplazakis en las voces es un punto culminante, cumpliendo perfectamente la promesa: su entrega oscila sin fisuras entre rugidos guturales y gritos angustiados.
