After a decade of relative silence, interrupted only by a brief spark in 2019, the Russian death metal band Grond has finally emerged from the depths. The band, which achieved cult status with their acclaimed «Worship The Kraken» (2016), has confirmed the release of their third studio album, titled «The Temple». Set to be unleashed on April 30, 2026, this work promises to establish itself as one of the fundamental genre releases of the year.
«The Temple» is not merely a collection of songs; it is a meticulously crafted concept album that intertwines the literature of H.P. Lovecraft with real military history. The album’s lyrics fuse Lovecraft’s unsettling short story of the same name with the career and tragic end of the decorated German U-boat commander, Otto Eduard Weddigen.
This duality allows Grond to explore two facets of terror:
The Thunder of War: Capturing the fire and steel of early 20th-century naval warfare.
Cosmic Horror: Evoking the discovery of submerged Atlantean cities and the madness emanating from the abyssal depths.
Musically, the album is an exhibition of technical prowess and atmospheric control. Grond has distilled the essence of the heaviest death metal to infuse it with their own signature brand of «underwater horror.»
For this long-awaited return, Grond has renewed their alliance with the Spanish label Xtreem Music, an indisputable benchmark of the extreme underground. The album’s visual presentation deserves special mention, as the cover art was created by Daemorph (Aborted Fetus, Avulsed), the band’s former bassist and one of the most sought-after artists in the current scene.
«The Temple» will be available on CD and digital formats on April 30. With this release, Grond not only returns to the international stage but reclaims their throne as the masters of the most abyssal and destructive death metal.
