The Scum, referente del Death Metal old school colombiano, ha anunciado el lanzamiento de su nuevo splittitulado «Dead Was The Sun». El proyecto es compartido con la banda canadiense Nihilist Death Cult, un grupo de culto conocido por su fusión de crust y punk metal.
El lanzamiento es una colaboración entre los sellos colombo-canadienses In Fastu Negas y Viuda Negra Music, con quienes The Scum ya trabajó en su aclamado LP «The Hunger» (2022). La idea del split surgió del gusto compartido por «lo bestial, lo agresivo y el sonido sin concesiones», según comentó José, vocalista de The Scum, destacando la conexión entre las escenas extremas de ambos países y la posibilidad de futuras presentaciones en Norteamérica.
El lado de The Scum en «Dead Was The Sun» incluye cuatro temas inéditos: «Hell Infection», «Dead Was The Sun», «Bokors Cry» y «Forsaken». Las canciones reflejan una evolución sonora que incorpora nuevas atmósferas dentro del Death Metal, manteniendo su energía característica de crust, punk y thrash.

El videoclip de «Hell Infection», el primer adelanto, se realizó con imágenes en vivo captadas durante conciertos destacados de la banda, incluyendo su apertura para Amon Amarth en 2024. Los sencillos «Dead Was The Sun» y «Bokor’s Cry» han reforzado el carácter apocalíptico del nuevo material.
Fiel a su identidad old school, el split se lanza en formato vinilo LP, reafirmando la devoción de la banda por los formatos físicos. «Dead Was The Sun» sienta las bases para su tercer álbum de estudio, actualmente en grabación, con el que buscarán equilibrar la crudeza de sus inicios con su evolución compositiva reciente.

The Scum, a leading figure in Colombian old school Death Metal, has announced the release of their new split titled «Dead Was The Sun». The project is shared with the Canadian band Nihilist Death Cult, a cult group known for its fusion of crust and punk metal.
The release is a collaboration between the Colombian-Canadian labels In Fastu Negas and Viuda Negra Music, with whom The Scum previously worked on their acclaimed LP, «The Hunger» (2022). The idea for the split arose from a shared taste for «the brutal, the aggressive, and the uncompromising sound», according to José, vocalist of The Scum, highlighting the connection between the extreme scenes of both countries and the possibility of future performances in North America.
The Scum‘s side of «Dead Was The Sun» includes four unreleased tracks: «Hell Infection», «Dead Was The Sun», «Bokors Cry», and «Forsaken». The songs reflect a sonic evolution that incorporates new atmospheres within Death Metal, while maintaining their characteristic crust, punk, and thrash energy.

True to its old school identity, the split is being released in vinyl LP format, reaffirming the band’s devotion to physical formats. «Dead Was The Sun» sets the stage for their third studio album, currently being recorded, with which they seek to balance the rawness of their beginnings with their recent compositional evolution.
