La banda de death metal de Montreal, Phobocosm, ha lanzado «Unbound», el segundo sencillo extraído de su próximo álbum, «Gateway». El disco será lanzado por Dark Descent Records el 28 de noviembre en formatos CD, vinilo, casete y digital.
«Gateway» se presenta como una obra de death metal implacable y arcana que sella un capítulo creativo de la banda mientras abre el siguiente. Según el guitarrista Samuel Dufour, el álbum es un compendio de material que se remonta a distintas etapas de composición, incluyendo las eras de «Deprived», «Bringer of Drought» y «Foreordained».
El álbum fue grabado, mezclado y masterizado por el colaborador de la banda Xavier Berthiaume (Gevurah, Sanctvs) durante la misma sesión que su predecesor, «Foreordained». Esta coherencia sonora permite a «Gateway» cerrar las narrativas establecidas y servir como una conclusión antes de que la banda explore una nueva dirección:
«Lo vemos como el cierre de un capítulo para la banda. […] hemos decidido hacer las cosas un poco diferentes la próxima vez, añadiendo nuevos elementos que no han aparecido en nuestra música antes, explorando diferentes dinámicas y experimentando con una nueva afinación», explicó Dufour.
Temáticamente, «Gateway» profundiza en ideas exploradas en «Foreordained», centrándose en el tema de la búsqueda humana por la vida eterna o la prolongación antinatural de la vida. El álbum explora las formas más repulsivas de crueldad humana, incluso cuando la ciencia se utiliza para prolongar la barbarie contra los enemigos.
El arte visual del álbum es una continuación de la colaboración de Phobocosm con Lauri Laaksonen(Desolate Shrine, Convocation), que muestra un «umbral hacia algo ominoso».
Phobocosm apoyará el lanzamiento de «Gateway» con presentaciones seleccionadas en Norteamérica, seguidas de fechas europeas en 2026.
The Montréal death metal band Phobocosm has released «Unbound», the second single extracted from their forthcoming album, «Gateway». The record will be released by Dark Descent Records on November 28th in CD, vinyl, cassette, and digital formats.
«Gateway» is presented as an unrelenting and eldritch death metal opus that seals one creative chapter for the band while opening the next. According to guitarist Samuel Dufour, the album is a compendium of material dating back to different songwriting stages, including the eras of «Deprived», «Bringer of Drought» and «Foreordained».
The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band’s collaborator Xavier Berthiaume (Gevurah, Sanctvs) during the same session as its predecessor, «Foreordained». This sonic coherence allows «Gateway» to close established narratives and serve as a conclusion before the band explores a new direction:
«We view it as the closing of a chapter for the band. […] we have decided to do things a little differently next time around by adding new elements that haven’t appeared in our music before, exploring different dynamics and experimenting with a new tuning,» explained Dufour.
Thematically, «Gateway» delves into ideas explored on «Foreordained», focusing on the human pursuit of eternal life or the unnatural prolongation of life. The album explores the most repulsive forms of human cruelty, even when science is used to prolong barbarity against enemies.
The album’s visual art is a continuation of Phobocosm‘s collaboration with Lauri Laaksonen (Desolate Shrine, Convocation), depicting a «gateway to something ominous».
Phobocosm will support the release of «Gateway» with selected North American performances, followed by European dates in 2026.
