La banda ucraniana Arhat ha presentado su nuevo sencillo, «Sto dzerkal» (Cien espejos), una obra que fusiona la brutalidad del metal con la profunda carga literaria del poeta ucraniano de la década de los sesenta, Vasyl Stus. El tema se inspira en el destino trágico del autor y en los versos punzantes de su poemario Palimpsestos, obra publicada póstumamente en 1986 y considerada la cumbre de su producción creativa.
En el plano musical, «Sto dzerkal» se articula sobre un death metal a medio tiempo con influencias de groove metal. Arhat mantiene su estilo característico integrando texturas ambientales y melodías de raíz étnica que sirven como trasfondo atmosférico. Para este trabajo, la banda contó con la colaboración especial de Yulia Lykhotvor (Sidus Atrum), cuya técnica vocal de scream y growl añade una dimensión emocional cruda a la pieza.
El lanzamiento viene acompañado de un videoclip que recrea la atmósfera del arresto de Stus, proyectando una denuncia sobre el intento sistemático de borrar la identidad cultural ucraniana a lo largo de décadas. A través de este trabajo, Arhat rinde homenaje a figuras históricas como Khvylovy, Kurbas, Stus y Ratushny, subrayando que, a pesar de la represión y la violencia, el legado intelectual y artístico de estos autores sigue vigente y resonando con fuerza.
Con este sencillo, Arhat no solo demuestra una madurez compositiva envidiable, sino que reafirma su compromiso como altavoz de la memoria y la cultura ucraniana frente a la adversidad.
The Ukrainian band Arhat has presented their new single, «Sto dzerkal» (One Hundred Mirrors), a work that fuses the brutality of metal with the profound literary weight of the 1960s Ukrainian poet Vasyl Stus. The track draws inspiration from the author’s tragic fate and the poignant verses of his poetry collection Palimpsests, a work published posthumously in 1986 and considered the pinnacle of his creative output.
On a musical level, «Sto dzerkal» is built upon a mid-tempo death metal framework with groove metal influences. Arhat maintains their signature style by integrating ambient textures and ethnic-rooted melodies that serve as an atmospheric backdrop. For this project, the band featured a special guest appearance by Yulia Lykhotvor (Sidus Atrum), whose screaming and growling vocal technique adds a raw emotional dimension to the piece.
The release is accompanied by a music video that recreates the atmosphere of Stus’s arrest, projecting a condemnation of the systematic attempts to erase Ukrainian cultural identity over the decades. Through this work, Arhat pays tribute to historical figures such as Khvylovy, Kurbas, Stus, and Ratushny, emphasizing that despite repression and violence, the intellectual and artistic legacy of these authors remains alive and resonating with power.
