Finnish melodic black metal machinery Autumnfall has returned to the scene with the premiere of “Crystal Skies”, the new single taken from their upcoming studio album, «The Archaic Sins». The new record is set for official release on September 25, 2026, via Ardua Music, promising a new dose of atmospheric depth and compositional richness.
The new preview distills the signature balance that defines the group’s sound, where the genre’s characteristic intensity is shaped through fluid guitar lines, measured dramatic restraint, and a strong emotional sensitivity. In the words of primary songwriter Jussi Hänninen: » ‘Crystal Skies’ is probably my favorite song on the album, and has been ever since I first heard it remade and brought into our time. It is an interesting piece in the sense that the lyrics have a slightly positive background.»
Founded in 2019 by Hänninen himself (renowned as the main songwriter for the influential band Fall of the Leafebetween 1996 and 2007), Autumnfall was born as the natural continuation of that musical sensibility, featuring Tero Ruohonen on vocal duties. Following in the footsteps of their previous releases, «Ghosts of Light» (2021), «Bleak» (2022), and «The Archaic Shadows» (2024), «The Archaic Sins» draws directly from nostalgia: with the exception of a single unreleased composition, the bulk of the album is built upon pieces originally written between 1998 and 2001, updated with modern arrangements and mastered by Jasse Kesti at Kesthouse Studio.
