(English Below)

  • Helmouth – Voz y paisajes sonoros

  • Hahtezan – Voz

  • Trangoth – Bajo

From the darkest, most frigid corners of the North, Finnish outfit Paara has confirmed their highly anticipated return with the announcement of their third studio album, «Laulut tulen ja jään». The record will see the light of day on October 30, 2026, via Dusktone. To whet the appetite, the band has unveiled the official lead single, “Pohjolan”, now available across streaming platforms.

Formed roughly fifteen years ago and cemented in the scene with essential atmospheric black metal works like «Yön olevainen puoli» (2015) and «Riitti» (2018), Paara had been in apparent silence since 2019. Far from disbanding, the entity simply retreated into the wilderness to reconnect with its roots. The result is this new work, described as their most expansive and dynamic manifestation to date.

Musically, «Laulut tulen ja jään» masterfully traverses sharp black metal assaults and passages of immense majesty, where clean vocals and choral arrangements elevate a commandingly dark atmosphere. Straying from predictable patterns, the album stands out for its frequent structural twists and acoustic guitar interludes that bring an unexpected, delicate quiet before plunging the listener back into the sonic tempest.

The tracklist balances monumental compositions exceeding ten minutes with more direct, concentrated pieces. The official lineup bringing this journey to life consists of:

  • Zvartus – Guitars, vocals, keyboards, and programming

  • Helmouth – Vocals and soundscapes

  • Hahtezan – Vocals

  • Trangoth – Bass

  • Waara – Drums and percussion

To shape this sonic monolith, drums were recorded by Saku Moilanen at Deep Noise Studios, while the remaining instruments and vocals were handled by Zvartus, Paara, and Ville O. at Chef’s Room Studio in Helsinki. Mixing and mastering duties were largely carried out by S. Moilanen and Zvartus.

The visual presentation matches the artistic vision, featuring striking cover artwork by renowned artist David Thiérrée, a logo crafted by Toni Hietomaa, and graphic design by J. Pihlajaniemi.

Due to format variations, the album features two distinct tracklists:

  1. «Tuli»

  3. «Vuorten varjoista»

  4. «Kylmään kylään»

  5. «Kutsuu M.A.N.A.»

  6. «Lapsi päivännäkemätön»

  7. «Pimeyteen»

  8. «Pohjolan»

  9. «Jää»

  2. «Kirveenkantaja»

Northern darkness has reclaimed its sharpest voice.
