Los veteranos italianos de las vertientes más oscuras del metal extremo, Urna, han anunciado el lanzamiento de su esperado nuevo álbum de estudio, «The Great Jihad». El disco verá la luz el próximo 16 de octubre de 2026 a través del sello ATMF, la casa discográfica que ha respaldado a la formación desde su icónico larga duración «Sepulcrum». Para abrir boca, el grupo ha habilitado la escucha de su primer single, “Second of Three”.
Activos en el underground extremo durante más de dos décadas -desde su génesis en 2003 con Justa Funebria–, los italianos han forjado una identidad única que transita entre el black metal abrasivo, las profundidades asfixiantes del funeral doom y pasajes de electrónica y experimentación esotérica. Obras capitales como «Iter ad Lucem» (2009) y «Mors Principium Est» (2013) cimentaron una visión intransigente que ahora encuentra continuidad tras un largo y tortuoso proceso de gestación.
Las primeras maquetas de «The Great Jihad» comenzaron a germinar tras la publicación de «Mors Principium Est», dando inicio a un prolongado paréntesis al que siguieron interrupciones adicionales provocadas por la pandemia. Tras reanudar las sesiones, el álbum quedó finalmente finiquitado en 2025, cerrando un periplo creativo de más de diez años.
Musicalmente, este nuevo trabajo resulta más venenoso y tenso que sus predecesores. Si bien conserva la aplastante atmósfera del funeral doom, empuja sus pasajes más veloces hacia formas de black metal mucho más crudas y abrasivas. Entre la densidad opresiva brotan inmensas melodías siderales, dotando al conjunto de una solemne belleza de otro mundo.
Como novedad histórica en su trayectoria, Urna presenta por primera vez un álbum con letras íntegramente en inglés, abandonando el latín que ha caracterizado la mayor parte de su discografía tras su debut en italiano. Conceptualmente, el disco profundiza en el viaje espiritual de su artífice, RM, a través del hermetismo, abordando la dualidad desde una perspectiva puramente esotérica.
Esta nueva etapa se ve acompañada por la incorporación de nuevos colaboradores en su formación:
Sibilans (Anamnesi, Simulacro) a la batería.
T (Sangue Nero) al bajo.
Las grabaciones se prolongaron en sesiones fragmentadas entre 2014 y 2025 a caballo entre Italia y el Reino Unido, culminando con la mezcla y masterización en el MZ’s 322 Studio a principios de 2026. El apartado visual e ilustrativo del álbum lleva la firma del artista Francesco Gemelli.

Italian dark extreme metal veterans Urna have announced the release of their highly anticipated new studio album, «The Great Jihad». The record will see the light of day on October 16, 2026, via ATMF, the label that has backed the outfit since their iconic full-length Sepulcrum. To whet the appetite, the group has unleashed the album’s lead single, “Second of Three”.
Active in the extreme underground for over two decades -since their inception in 2003 with Justa Funebria– the Italians have forged a unique identity straddling abrasive black metal, the suffocating depths of funeral doom, and electronic/esoteric experimental passages. Landmark releases such as «Iter ad Lucem» (2009) and «Mors Principium Est» (2013) cemented an uncompromising vision that now finds continuation after a long and tortuous gestation period.
Initial demos for «The Great Jihad» began taking shape following the release of «Mors Principium Est», marking the start of a prolonged hiatus that was further interrupted by the pandemic. Upon resuming sessions, the album was finally completed in 2025, wrapping up a creative journey spanning more than ten years.
Musically, this new effort proves to be more poisonous and tense than its predecessors. While retaining the crushing atmosphere of funeral doom, it pushes its faster passages toward far rawer and more abrasive forms of black metal. Amid the oppressive density, immense stellar melodies emerge, endowing the material with a solemn, otherworldly beauty.
In a landmark shift for their career, Urna presents an album featuring lyrics entirely in English for the very first time, moving away from the Latin that characterized most of their discography following their Italian-language debut. Conceptually, the record delves into the spiritual journey of its mastermind, RM, through Hermeticism, addressing duality from a purely esoteric perspective.

The recording sessions took place intermittently between 2014 and 2025 across Italy and the UK, concluding with mixing and mastering at MZ’s 322 Studio in early 2026. The album’s visual layout and artwork bear the signature of artist Francesco Gemelli.
